By comparison, most of my friends arrived having heard little about Nintendo's new system. But, as it turned out, that device was the hit of the party.
While the people in my group preferred looking at the PS3's games, they preferred playing the Wii.
I have never seen a bunch of non-gamers get into this stuff like this, and I have never heard anybody laugh so much while playing any video game. A few of them now say they plan to buy the system for themselves.
A few minutes later, he was cursing the PS3. Most of my friends who picked up the PS3's controller ended up frustrated.
watched Andy and me fall over the furniture as we boxed each other on the Nintendo system. "I'm having more fun just watching you guys play that," he said.
you have to be pretty sharp-eyed to tell much of a difference between the first batch of PS3 games and Xbox 360
Trying to get online with the PS3, on the other hand, was a vale of tears...Imagine filling out a mortgage application on a cellphone. It's something like that.
Nintendo got one feature right with the system on Day One: It's just darn fun.
Grampa Seagull wielded the Wiimote like a wrench or a shovel. The man who never deals with tech, besides a regular remote for a tv. He asks me to help him reprogram the remote for his tv everytime the batteries die (its a universal remote). Even though I wrote all 3 steps down for him. He works on older cars and home landscaping. Everything is physical.
But tonight me and my grampa played golf, tennis, and bowling... on Wii.
The getting him to play was a tiny bit of a chore, he was intimidated having never played games in his life, and i mean real games either besides a few card games. The man was a man by the age we reached Power Rangers. He was afraid of looking rediculous. I told him that didnt matter, and offered him a round of tennis. He paused for a second and proposed "how about a round of golf?".
YES! he's down! This was the coolest ever, my Mii and Grampas Mii were hittin' the beginner course. He never got over a bogey on the golf, and his bowling game (first ever) was at 154!
He was about to go to bed before we started playing, but after the 3-holes he wanted to try more! so we went into tennis! he was returning all the balls, but his learning curve on direction is still in effect, although he did beat me during one game. eee, in a month grampa seagull is going to own me at Wii Sports tennis... Then we went to bowling where he learned he had a right curve, and I was shocked at his score. We only played one round of bowling before we turned it off. I asked him if he liked it..
"Yeah, but it looks like Im going to have to improve my score" - do i sense an implication for more?!
Wii seriously hit where it wanted to. it got my grampa into games. I can't wait till they release the software specifically made for grampas. I mean tailor made grampa stuff, slower paced than wii sports, but just as addicting.
